Dvi To Hdmi Converter
Technology has advanced to the point that we can now send video and audio as information over a cable, a modem, a telephone line, and even as radio waves. The formats under which these can be sent from one device to another are called interfaces.
The most advanced ones are DVI and HMDI. The main difference between them is that DVI is used to transfer video only, whereas HMDI can transfer both video and audio.
HMDI is an abbreviation for High Definition Multimedia Interface. It runs with a bandwidth of 10.2 Gigabits per second. DVI is an abbreviation for Digital Visual Interface and it runs with a bandwidth of up to 7.92 Gigabits per second.
The success of both interfaces is the protocol they use, which is named Transition Minimized Differential Signaling, or TMDS, for short. The TMDS protocol is the technology that transmits digital data over the copper cable without compressing it. Previous protocols transformed the digital data into analog data and compressed it.
Because there is less handling of the data, at a much higher speed, TMDS allows both HDMI and DVI receivers to display a much higher video resolution.
The plugs for HMDI and DVI are different, so you can’t normally connect a DVI source device to an HMDI receiver. And in most of cases, this isn’t necessary.
Nevertheless, if you like experimenting with your electronic devices, a DVI to HDMI converter may be necessary.
A DVI to HDMI converter lets you connect your computer to your high definition TV. For example, if you have a youtube video that you want to show to a lot of people, you might want to use a DVI to HMDI converter to connect your computer to a plasma TV.
A DVI to HDMI converter is also useful when someone brings a laptop or a computer which doesn’t have HDMI output, and you need a large group of people to look at the display; for example, for a class or a business presentation. In those cases, a DVI to HDMI converter will let you connect the laptop to any high definition television available.
In addition, a DVI to HDMI converter is inexpensive and easy to connect. It comes in two variations.
The first type of DVI to HDMI converter consists of a small connector that allows you to connect it at one end of a HDMI cable.
The second type of DVI to HDMI converter is a cable that has an HDMI plug on one end, and a DVI plug on the other. It is a bit more expensive, but easier to handle and it doesn’t get lost as often. It also allows you to leave your normal HDMI cable at home.
In any case, either type of DVI to HDMI converter is a good idea to carry around with your laptop if you tend to give presentations a lot.
